My debut novel Flower is available to purchase from Friesen Press bookstore, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. It’s available as an ebook on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Apple, and Google.

Writing this story was a healing experience for me. When I began writing this story, my coparenting partner and I were redefining our relationship. We had started as traditional romantic partners, but we had come to realize there was no future for us in that direction. However, we still respected on another, and we both loved our children. We decided we could make our platonic coparenting relationship work. This was great news for our non-traditional family.

However, personally, I knew I had a some work to do on myself. I had a history of people pleasing, of not understanding my own boundaries and their importance and validity, and of not really knowing who I was. In the process of reviewing my history and healing wounds, I decided to write a love letter to myself. My goal with this love letter was to point out my own part in unhealthy relationships and to promise myself that I would not grow cold.

I have always connected better with the imagery of fiction and music rather than any self-help books, so this story is that love letter.

Flower was also inspired by one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands, Seventeen. If you get the chance to listen to it, and read the translation of the lyrics, if necessary, I highly recommend it.

Hopefully, this story can help others remember their own worth and avoid the lessons I have had to learn.
